In Sanskrit negative seeming words before or at the beginning of a word indicate a strong "No" that the rest of the syllables can't overcome, whereas a "No"(Negative) sound towards the end of the word, indicate that, that  word or syllable  has to evolve from a caterpillar to butterfly by applying pressure on the walls of "No" that comes   afterwards (the syllable) .. 

Like "നാ നിമിത്തേ" while mean, "Not with signs", "നിമിത്തേന" means "as per signs" with some evolution of feeble opposition of "ന" at the end, which is almost equivalent to the word "നിമിത്തേ" which means as per sign..
